An experiment in social media
This website was created as an experiment to test how quickly and easily it would be to attract and/or retain sustatined traffic to a brand new website with relatively no worthwhile content.
I tested this by adding one post on this site, adding a comment on 6 different blogs that had already written about Kevin Rose then following 300 random people on Twitter. In the end I put the site up on a Sunday and by Tuesday I had roughtly 1,000 visitors. Not bad for a totally worthless site.
Granted most of those visitors came to the site once, did not participate in any way and never came back but that just goes to show you that anyone can attract visitor’s; it’s getting them to participate and come back that’s difficult.
I personally don’t hate Kevin Rose. I just think think he’s a blow hard that’s running out of worthwhile stuff to say so he uses his popularity like a parrot and speaks the words of others. Either create another Digg-like success or stop talking. Go buy a Seth Godin book, do something amazing and I may start to listen again.
For those of you who really do dislike Kevin Rose that much I’d be happy to sell you the domain and the website.
Thank for playing,
The Heavy
P.S. Alex Albrecht, you still crack me up. Keep up the good work.
